SUMMARY:Hikes for Tikes: Plants & Trees
DESCRIPTION:Hikes for Tikes: Plants & Trees will meet at Sperr Park in Big Flats\, NY\, by the pavilion. \nThis free program is geared towards families and caregivers with younger children. Our nature guides\, provided by Tanglewood Nature Center\, will lead you and your child(ren) on a fun nature stroll. These walks are stroller-friendly and a snack and drink is provided for our little river friends at the half-way point. All walks take less than an hour. This is a wonderful way to network with other young families and learn about our environment. No registration is required. \nThis program meets from 10am – 11am at various locations\, as noted below. Our guide will talk about environmental issues as the walk progresses. Each walk includes binoculars\, snacks\, water and education provided by skilled Tanglewood nature guides. \nPlease wear sneakers\, hiking boots\, or comfortable shoes (no  flip flops). Bring sun screen and insect repellent. The walks are on dirt and paved trails and grassy levees and meadows. The walks are rain-or-shine events and are only cancelled for lightning storms. Dress for the weather. Our Composting event will take place at Pirozzolo Park\, W. Water Street\, Elmira\, NY\, USA.  \nDuring this hands-on event\, you’ll learn the basics of composting and how to create your own compost pile. Our knowledgeable expert will guide you through the process\, sharing valuable tips and tricks along the way. Not only will you be helping the environment by reducing waste\, but you’ll also be improving the health of your plants. \nThis event is a perfect way to get students interested in learning to reduce what is sent to the landfill. SUMMARY:Family Program: Pollution Problems & Solutions
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a hands-on session focused on pollution\, specifically how it ends up in our river and what effect this has on the plants and animals that depend on it\, humans included! This in-person event\, designed for homeschool families\, will take place at the Friends of the Chemung River office\, Midtown 111 building\, Suite 8\, North Main Street\, Elmira\, NY. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn how to be a part of the solution! \nThis program uses our Enviroscape\, a gift of the Rotary Club. We will be using spray bottles and small toys to model how pollution moves through our watershed. \nPlease register your child(ren) only. We have 20 children’s spots available\, and you are encouraged to join your child during the session so you can continue these practices at home. \nThis free program is sponsored by The Friends of the Chemung River Watershed https://www.ChemungRiverFriends.org and funded through grants from the Anderson Foundation\, the Hilliard Foundation\, & Casella. A suggested\, but not at all required\, donation is $10.
